Final Export

My final version of Ido

Adobe Premiere

I am editing the sound in Adobe Premiere as I find it easier to use for sound files, I have decided to change a few sounds from my animatic as I don't think they fit in smoothly with the rest of the animation, I'm still not happy with the sound, however, I think it will get the intended message across

Collaborating Shots

I am using Adobe After Effects to put all my shots together, at this stage my audio files from my animatic don't match up so I will have to re-do the sound. Each shot is a different file, I will render out this version before putting the grain and noise effect over top.

Animation Studys

Medusa

Medusa is about an ancient Greek legend, it tells the story of Medusa's sorrow, I like this animation because without words it is still able to portray the characters emotions, the music and facial expressions make this animation moving to watch.

Entropy

I like the style of entropy, this animation was done as part of a school project at the Freelance Animation School in Auckland. I like how the artists have taken Greek influences in the backgrounds. I also appreciate how seamless the animation feels, as I begin animating Ido I am starting to understand just how difficult it is to portray characters movements without making them seem jerky or out of proportion

Shots

I am currently animating my animation shot by shot, it is proving difficult to keep the characters consistent throughout the shots, however, I think its going well overall

Progress

I have started animating fully in Toonboom Harmony now, breaking the animation into shots to make it easier to deal with.
There are a lot of issues with the program, however, I am hoping these will smooth out the more i get used to it.

Rigging

Today I learnt how to rig Ido's arm in Harmony. It took a long time to get right because of the joints not matching very well. I am currently working on rigging his whole body.

Ido's arm is split up into three major parts, the upper arm, lower arm and hand

By placing pivot points where the arm would rotate I am able to rig his arm so it is movable in any direction I want

The inverse kinematics allows the arm to move as a whole object through the specified pivot points

Characters Drawn in Harmony

I now have Ido, Elissa and Amos drawn up in Harmony, Amos is designed bigger then both Ido and Elissa even thought the picture does not portray this well. I am not 100% happy with Elissa but mostly it is because of her face which I will be changing as I animate it anyway. Both characters are coloured two tones which will be more difficult to animate, however I think it looks much better this way. I also plan to do a younger version of Ido, without wrinkles and a browner beard for the flashbacks with Elissa.

Concept Art

Concept Art

I have been trying hard to come up with a style that fits my animation emotionally and aesthetically, this style was inspired by the last video I posted with the grainy texture layered over the top. I will have to rework the scene as I am not happy with the angles that were originally on my animatic, however, I think this could work as a style for my animation

Toonboom Harmony

I am getting used to working in harmony slowly, this it my first character outline for Ido, will need to work out my connections in order to colour how I want him to look, it is proving more difficult then I thought.

2D animation Styles

2D Animations Inspiration

Red

I like the style of this animation as it is sketchy but still able to portray the emotions of the characters, the colour pallet is also nice as its tinted red. This could work for my animation but with a different coloured tint.

Un Sacre Marriage

This animation is done in a two toned style, I like the subtle colours that are used in the background. The characters stand out because textures have been used in the environment to separate the two

Short Movie
For this animation I like the texture that has been layered over the top of the images, it gives it a dated feeling that I think would work well with my animation

BDM 236 Animation Research

For my 2D animation I plan on using the same story from my previous Storyboard about Ido the Greek Potter. I have been researching what types of styles could be effective for my story and am drawn to the old Classical Disney style. The characters are outlined in black while backgrounds are decorative but a darker tone then the characters. I like the colour pallets for both Jungle Book and the Sword in the Stone as they are not overly bright. I think this could work well for my story.

Animatic

My animatic,
I've had a lot of computer troubles in between the storyboard and animatic hand-in, however, I think I've managed to create the mood I wanted through timing of the frames and audio soundtrack.

Movie: HOME

Home (2015)
Director: Tim Johnson
Producer: Suzanne Buirgy & Mirielle Soria
Studio: Dreamworks

This movie appealed to me because the girl is similar to a character I am considering for my comic, I enjoyed watching this as it was very emotional and beautifully told. The characters were lovable and interesting to watch, I especially liked how O's character changed colour with his emotions, he was an original alien design. The music used in the movie was mostly Rhianna which would account for her being the main characters voice. I liked the movie as it was a happy, light hearted and easy movie to watch.

BDM125 Final Storyboard

This is all the scenes in my storyboard with the beginnings of my animatic added, I am working on the timing and audio track at the moment

Animation Review: 850 Meters

850 Meters (2013)
Director: Joeri Christiaen
Producer: Perrine Gauthier
Studio: Lunanime, Thuristar

I really enjoyed this short film for its use of pace to make the story more captivating the humorous style of the animated characters also makes it more enjoyable to watch. Christiaen has used slow motion moments and fast paced scenes to keep the audience watching. I have been studying the use of pace for my animatic in BDM125 where action scenes are faster and scenery shots are longer and take more time to develop. This film uses slow motion shots in the action sequences to emphasize the comedic side of the story. I also liked how the story line twisted a lot making it impossible to guess the outcome of the short. The art style is unique, I like how the background is slightly blurred and out of focus to make the characters stand out with crisp edges so we focus more on the performance then the overall artwork in the scene.

BDM126 Motion Studies

I've been having troubles trying to upload video files to this blog so have not posted my progress in a while, In Principles of Animation we have been working on Motion Studies in Adobe Flash,
