I've had a lot of computer troubles in between the storyboard and animatic hand-in, however, I think I've managed to create the mood I wanted through timing of the frames and audio soundtrack.
Home (2015)
Director: Tim Johnson
Producer: Suzanne Buirgy & Mirielle Soria
Studio: Dreamworks
This movie appealed to me because the girl is similar to a character I am considering for my comic, I enjoyed watching this as it was very emotional and beautifully told. The characters were lovable and interesting to watch, I especially liked how O's character changed colour with his emotions, he was an original alien design. The music used in the movie was mostly Rhianna which would account for her being the main characters voice. I liked the movie as it was a happy, light hearted and easy movie to watch.
I really enjoyed this short film for its use of pace to make the story more captivating the humorous style of the animated characters also makes it more enjoyable to watch. Christiaen has used slow motion moments and fast paced scenes to keep the audience watching. I have been studying the use of pace for my animatic in BDM125 where action scenes are faster and scenery shots are longer and take more time to develop. This film uses slow motion shots in the action sequences to emphasize the comedic side of the story. I also liked how the story line twisted a lot making it impossible to guess the outcome of the short. The art style is unique, I like how the background is slightly blurred and out of focus to make the characters stand out with crisp edges so we focus more on the performance then the overall artwork in the scene.
I've been having troubles trying to upload video files to this blog so have not posted my progress in a while, In Principles of Animation we have been working on Motion Studies in Adobe Flash,
Alma (2009)
Director: Rodrigo Blaas
Studio: Render Rocket
Awards: Best Animation- Lashortsfest (2009) / Best of Festival- Animazing Spotlight (2009) / Best Opera Prima- I Castelli Animati (2009) / Grand Prix- Bradford (2009)
I really enjoyed the style of this animation, Alma is a likable character that we develop a bond with by watching her on screen. The story itself is a little creepy and keeps the suspense going through use of anticipation as we know what will happen to the girl yet can do nothing about it. I like the art style and the use of music and sound effects to replace dialogue.
