The short film Monsterbox is a charming story about the friendship between an older man and a young girl who find comfort in each others loneliness. This animation appealed to me as the use of emotions to portray the characters feeling was inspiring. Without dialogue the mood was expressed through the change in music and the character developments. In the opening scene of 'Monsterbox' we meet the two main characters, an old man who owns a garden shop and a young girl with an unusual pet. The old man seems rough to begin with but as we watch he begins to open up as he finds joy in making the little girl smile. Act one shows us the beauty of their friendship as both characters treasure each others company and the bonsai tree is introduced as an important part of the mans life. As the animation continues the mans bonsai blooms much like the friendship. The climax of the film is when the old man realizes that his new friend is more important to him then a plant, he found more beauty in the companionship with the little girl and making her happy then he did with the bonsai tree he had been tending for a long time. 'Monsterbox' is a story that connects well with the audience, teaching us an important life lesson in the process.
